Chinese Glass Artist Duo

Founded in 2022 by Li Chengyu and Wang Yunxiao, Tangshui Studio is a glass art space in Jingdezhen, China, where creativity meets experimentation. The studio specializes in Pâte de verre, an ancient glassworking technique that transforms crushed glass into luminous, semi-translucent forms. Inspired by their surroundings, the duo captures elements of nature—clouds, plants, and landscapes—through delicate textures and vibrant designs. Their works blend artistic expression with everyday functionality, making glass art an integral part of life.

Chengyu and Yunxiao, graduates of the Tsinghua University Academy of Arts and Design and the Royal College of Art, are among the few in China practicing Pâte de verre. This meticulous process involves grinding glass into fine particles, layering them into molds, and firing them to create soft, cloud-like textures. Dedicated to their craft, they built specialized kilns to overcome technical challenges like cracking and bubble formation, pushing the boundaries of what glass can achieve.

For Tangshui Studio, glass is a bridge between tradition and modernity. Through their plant-inspired vessels, abstract bowls, and intricate panels, they seek to share the poetic beauty of glass and reimagine its role in art and life. Their work highlights the transformative potential of this ancient medium while introducing a contemporary approach that resonates with modern audiences.
